Windsor Garden Club 2020 Events
Welcome! Bienvenidos! Windsor Garden Club is a diverse group of people who would rather be out in the garden than just about anywhere else in the world. We became an official club in 2009 and we've been growing ever since. We're all about having fun while gardening and making the Town of Windsor, California, a great place to live. We also manage the Town Green Community Garden, a wonderful spot in the heart of Windsor.
All of our meetings are free and open to the public. We meet the second MONDAY of the month for social time and interesting educational speakers at the Town of Windsor Bluebird Center. It's at 25 Bluebird Dr., corner of Old Redwood Highway and Bluebird Drive, just west of the Windsor Palms Shopping Center.
Here were all the activities we had planned for 2020. Due to Covid 19 and county restrictions on indoor group gatherings, the club has cancelled all of its monthly indoor meetings for 2020 We are still holding outdoor Community Garden workdays the second Saturday of each month. WGC 2020 Events Calendar
January
Saturday, 11th: Join us at the free Growing Up WILD workshop on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Windsor Senior Center, 9231 Foxwood Dr. Receive free training on encouraging kids ages 3 to 7 to get outdoors and connect with nature.
Monday 13th: Gregg Lowery, curator for Friends of Vintage Roses, will be the speaker at the Jan. 13 meeting of the Windsor Garden Club. Lowery will speak about the organization and the 5,000 vintage rose specimens they are caring for, researching and cataloging in Sebastopol. Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.
February
Monday 10th: Learn about Windsor Garden Club's "100 Monarch Waystations" Project. It's an initiative to get Windsor residents to plant milkweed to help feed and hatch the beautiful butterflies. Project organizer Cindy Fenton will speak on Monarchs and the milkweed project. Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.
March
Monday 9th: Getting Your Kids to Grow Up Wild on Earth will be the topic of April's WGC meeting. Jeanne Knapp, state coordinator of Project WILD will speak on encouraging kids ages 3 to 7 to get outdoors and connect with nature. Perfect for anyone with kids or grandkids (or anyone wanting to appreciate the planet.) Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.
Sunday 29th: Floral Design Basics. Mary Robledo of Flourish Floral Design will lead a free workshop on design basics and there will be a seed/plant cutting sharing for summer gardens. See the Floral Design Workshop news release for full details.
April
Saturday 11th: Second Saturday Work Party in the Town Green Community Garden. Bring your favorite garden tool, your gloves and some water and turn out at the Community Garden from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Help weed, rake and spruce up the common areas of the garden. All plot renters are required to put in 6 hours per year helping out with garden maintenance. Be sure to note your hours in the red book in the Kiosk. Friends welcome!
Monday 13th: Retired university professor Tom Gulya will speak on "The Trouble with Tomatoes." Hear Tom's research into blossom end rot and get your tomato questions answered just in time for seed planting season. Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.
May

Sunday 10th: Mother's Day at Farmers' Market. Help children build a bouquet for mom. WGC provides the flowers and materials to kids free; we do accept donations from dads and others. It's always a fun activity. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (usually earlier -- when flowers run out). Volunteer in two hour shifts. Volunteers needed! Contact officers@windsorgardenclub.org to sign up.
Monday 11th: "The Garden of Herbal Delights" is the topic of Master Gardener Janet Barocco. Learn everything you want to know about planting your own herb garden, herb planting pairings, and herb uses. Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.
June
Sunday 7th: Floral Designer Mary Robledo will lead a free workshop on creating "Summer Abundance in a Vase." For full details see the Floral Design Workshop Schedule.
Monday 8th: "Gardening for Year-Round Color" is the topic of Master Gardener Linda Keating King. King focuses on using foliage comibination plantings to assure beautiful color in your garden throughout all seasons. Meeting begins with refreshments and social time at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebird Center, 25 Bluebird Drive.

Dec. 15: Town Green Community Garden managers tally volunteer work hours put in by plot renters. Plot renters are charged $20/hr for any of their unworked six hours of annual common area maintenance time.
