Calling All Members: Help Build Succulent Pumpkins!

Club Members and Community Gardeners: We Need YOU to sign up for a pumpkin decorating session to help us create the succulent-topped pumpkins we sell as a successful fundraiser every year.

This year's sale will take place at Windsor's Harvest Farmers' Market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday Oct. 27. (We need pumpkin sale helpers too!) Community Gardeners: you CAN get volunteer work hour credit for decorating pumpkins OR helping at the Oct. 27 plant sale!

No experience is necessary! Our pumpkin veterans will show you how to use hot glue, succulents and seasonal decor items to create a mini- or medium-sized pumpkin. With proper care they will easily last through Thanksgiving as centerpieces; when the pumpkins go you can plant the succulents and they'll thrive. People are already asking WGC members when the sale is and whether we're doing pupmpkins again. Help!

The pumpkin decorating sessions are once again being held by Past President Cindy Fenton at her home on a drop-in basis on the following days in October. You don't have to stay for the entire session. You do need to bring a hot glue gun, and chat and craft away at Cindy's house (email her for the address) on:

Monday Oct. 14: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wednesday Oct. 16: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday Oct. 18: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunday Oct. 20: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday Oct. 21: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wednesday Oct. 23: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday Oct 25th: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Succulents and decorating materials will be provided. But if you've got succulent cuttings to donate we'd appreciate them. Cuttings should have a good 1-inch stem on them or be an easily rooting sedum (like Pork and Beans, Blue Spruce).

Profits from the annual Fall Pumpkin and Plant Sale and Spring Plant Sale support WGC projects, including the Town Green Community Garden, Town Hall Demonstration Garden, and Windsor student scholarships.

We also need folks to help out at the actual plant sale on Sunday Oct. 27. Shifts are: Set-up from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Sales from 10:-11:30 a.m. and/or 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Cleanup from 1 to 2 p.m. Contact Cindy Fenton to sign up.
