Help Out with Pumpkin Prep Please!
Hi everyone! It's time for Succulent Pumpkins again!
For those of you new to the existence of succulent-topped pumpkins and how they are made, read on and be amazed. It is genius! You spray an intact pumpkin with spray adhesive, attach sphagnum moss, hot glue succulent cuttings into place, and with minimal care you can enjoy a live, unique and long-lasting (like 3-6 months long-lasting!) seasonal arrangement. In spring you can remove the succulents and plant them in the ground or a pot. The pumpkin you can compost. We'll have pumpkin pros there for design suggestions and help if you've never done it before. Succulent Pumpkins are just about the biggest fundraiser every year for the Windsor Garden Club. The more we sell, the more we can do for gardening and garden education in and around the Town of Windsor. This is a fabulous fundraiser for the club and with plenty of help we will all have fun doing it.
The 2016 "pumpkin build" days will be held in a shady backyard -- so it should be pleasant. If you volunteer your time to make 5 pumpkins in assorted sizes for the 2016 Fall Plant & Pumpkin Sale, you can use club materials to build and take home your sixth (and very own) Succulent Pumpkin for free! (A medium pumpkin or smaller). You'll need to bring your own pumpkin -- but we'll have all the decor.
Anyone with succulent cuttings to donate, please let me know! We could use some chalky blue tall Senecio-type cuttings and also some small-to-medium sized succulent rosettes in the light blue range. Anything yellow or orange is also appreciated. We already have a lot of Sedum, as well as Sempervivum (gray/green rosettes). The more variety of color and texture we have on hand in succulents, though, the better! Volunteer Opportunities/Build Dates:
